The Lost Art of Mixing

by Erica Bauermeister
February 2013

This is a sequel to the wonderful book The School of Essential Ingredients.  I enjoyed it as much, if not more than the original.  Like the first book, this one involves many characters whose lives are intertwined and linked by Lillian and her restaurant.

Both books remind me of Maeve Binchey's stories. They are character driven. When this format doesn't work, it's predictable and formulaic. But when it works - as it does with this book - it's delicious.  Erica Bauermeister knows how to mix her characters like ingredients in a  soup. They each add a distinct flavor, but become a whole treat.
